iTunes Radio Adds NPR to Its Lineup, Plans More News Channels

iTunes Radio is branching out from its music roots, as Re/Code reports today that Apple’s audio streaming service is adding National Public Radio as its first news and talk channel.

Re/Code reports that more news related channels are on their way.

The NPR stream should go live today, and will be a free stream, offering a 24/7 mix of live news and segments from previously recorded shows such as “All Things Considered,” and “The Dian Rehm Show.” NPR officials noted that the coming weeks should see some of the broadcaster’s local affiliates begin offering their own channels with a similar blend of content.

NPR has been freely available via Web browsers and mobile apps for awhile now, and already boasts 30 million visitors a month. A number that is sure to increase with their exposure via iTunes Radio.
