Apple’s iOS 7.1 update could debut to the public “any day now” if well-connected analyst John Gruber of Daring Fireball’s sources are to be believed.
Apple is planning to stream the performances at the iTunes Festival at SXSW to iOS devices using an as yet unreleased app. Gruber’s source says that’s because the app requires iOS 7.1. The iTunes Festival, the first held in the U.S., starts a week from today. Ergo, iOS 7.1 should go live “any day now.”
Several reports have indicated that iOS 7.1, which has been in testing since November, and is currently in Beta 5, will drop to the public sometime in March. That timeframe does jive with the Gruber report.
As of the writing of this article, Apple has not released a “Golden Master” of iOS 7.1 to its developers, which should occur before Apple goes live with the release. We’ll keep an eye on Apple’s developer portal, and let you know when that occurs.
