Google Play Games Multiplayer Comes to iOS, Allows Competition Between iOS, Android and The Web

Google has announced enhanced iOS support for its Play Games SDK at the 2014 Game Developers Conference on Monday. The updated SDK will allow developers to expand Google Play Games turn-based and real-time multiplayer support to Apple’s iOS platform, as well as Android and the web.

AppleInsider reports that in addition to competitive and cooperative multiplayer, the platform will also offer cloud saves, synced achievements, leaderboards, and game gifts – a new service that will allow users to send in-game objects to other users.

Developers will have access to enhanced statistics, and ad-supported titles will reap benefits from Google Analytics, and in-app purchase ads.

While Google Play Game services debuted on iOS, Android, and the web last year, Monday’s additions are the first time the search giant has looked to expand to cross-platform multiplayer.

The announcement comes as Microsoft is reportedly working on expanding its Xbox Live gaming services to iOS and Android.
