Apple Updates iTunes Festival App Ahead of SXSW – iOS 7.1 NOT Required

Apple has updated its iTunes Festival to version 5.0, just ahead of the SXSW iTunes Festival, which is set for kickoff next Tuesday, March 11th. Oh, and as noted by MacStories, it doesn’t require iOS 7.1 to work.

Daring Fireball’s John Gruber reported earlier this week that a source had told him the iTunes Festival app would require iOS 7.1, leading to speculation, (yes, by us too…), that iOS 7.1 should be released “any day now.”

The app appears in the iOS App Store with a new icon, and it includes a “refreshed design,” and is “updated to feature iTunes Festival at SXSW.” So, there’s that.

The iTunes Festival will offer five nights of free concerts at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. Featured artists include Soundgarden, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, Keith Urban, and more.

While all of the concerts will be presented free, you must get your tickets via a lottery system. For those not lucky enough to win tickets, live and on-demand streams of the shows will be available via the iTunes Festival app, and the Apple TV.

The iTunes Festival app is available FREE for the iPad and iPhone in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]
