Apple has confirmed the purchase of Burstly, owner of the popular iOS beta testing platform TestFlight. Re/code has confirmed the purchase, which was first reported by TechCrunch.
Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet mouthed the standard Apple “confirmation” to Re/code, saying only, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.” So yeah, they bought Burstly.
Burstly is best known for its mobile app management platform, which offers analytical tools such as as FlightPath. The company acquired TestFlight – a testing tool for mobile developers – in 2012.
TestFlight is popular among developers, as it allows them to release early versions of their applications to a small number of users without having to go through the App Store.
TestFlight also measures the performance of in-app purchases and ads, while also supplying information such as the version of iOS users have installed on their devices, as well as info on why their apps may have crashed during use.
TestFlight plans to end support for Android app testing as of March 21st. Not unusual, considering the identity of the company who purchased the platform.
There has been no word as yet on Apple’s plans for Burstly and their developer tools, and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
