U.S. Mac Sales Jump 28.5% in Face of PC Market Shrinkage of 7.5%

The latest figures from Gartner for the fourth quarter of 2013 show Mac sales in the U.S. jumped 28.5% year-over-year, giving Apple a 13.7% share of the market, while the overall PC market shrank 7.5% in the same time frame.

AppleInsider:

Apple’s nearly 30 percent year over year growth stood in contrast to the 7.5 percent drop that the overall PC market saw in the U.S. during the holiday quarter. Gartner’s estimates suggest Apple shipped nearly 2.2 million Macs domestically in the December frame, giving it a 13.7 percent share and putting it in third place.

A year ago saw Apple’s sales suffer in the face of serious delays for its newly revamped iMac lineup. Most orders for the new computers didn’t ship until early 2013.

Apple placed behind only HP and Dell, with 26.5% (down 10.3%), and 22.8% (up 7.4%) respectively.

Fourth place went to Lenovo which took 9.7% of shipments, up 3.5% Y-o-Y, and Toshiba grabbed fifth place with a 7.2% share, off 13.9%.

Apple did not break into the top five for worldwide Q4 2013 sales.
