Dutch news website NU.nl [Google Translate] reports that Apple’s recently opened Retail Store in the Dutch City of Haarlem was the site of a smash-and-grab last night.
People living in the area of the store claimed to hear a loud bang in the middle of the night, which likely represented the sound of a car hitting the front of the Apple Store.
The car that was used as a key to open the store was left behind, as the thieves allegedly used two scooters(!) to escape the crime scene.
Dutch Police are still investigating the robbery, and the store will remain closed to the public until the investigation is completed.
Police report only a small amount of merchandise was taken, because really, how much stuff can you carry while riding on a scooter?
Although mugging thefts of individual Apple devices continue to be common, robberies such as the Haarlem break-in are relatively rare.
This robbery does however, follow the recent smash-and-grab that took place at the Apple Store in Kurfürstendamm, Berlin on December 23 that involved thieves crashing into the store with an Opel Corsa automobile, stealing the iPhones, iPads, and Mac on display there, and then fleeing in two Audis. (Note to thieves: Audis as a choice for getaway car = good idea, Scooters as a getaway vehicle = Meh, not so much.)
