It’s no secret that we’re big fans of the Pebble Smartwatch here at MacTrast – even if it isn’t made by Apple, and may not be as “smart” as some folks would like. Despite those concerns, a new announcement made today on the Pebble Blog reveals that the Pebble is about to get a whole lot smarter – thanks to the official launch of the Pebble Appstore early next year!
From the Pebble Dev Blog:
We are extremely excited to announce the Pebble appstore! Many of you, as developers, have asked for it and we are happy to announce that it will go live with Pebble SDK 2.0 early next year.
Pebble appstore will be included in the official Pebble smartphone application and will be the first place where Pebble users look for Pebble apps. For developers, the Pebble appstore is the best way to promote and distribute your Pebble applications to users.
The Pebble appstore will include apps in six separate categories (Daily, Remotes, Sports & Fitness, Notifications, Tools & Utilities and Games), as well as a wide variety of watch faces. The launch will also coincide with the new 2.0 version of the Pebble SDK, also slated for release early next year.
Short of an official Apple “iWatch,” this is probably as close to a truly useful smart watch experience that we’re likely to get any time soon! We’ll keep you updated as we hear more!
