New App Claims to Improve Your Vision, And It’s Backed by Science

A new app claims it can reduce the need for reading glasses. While it may be hard to take an app such as GlassesOff seriously, it apparently has some scientific backing, as a study by the journal Scientific Reports (via The Wall Street Journal), has found the program actually improves letter recognition by 1.6 times.

TUAW:

The app includes a baseline vision test which produces a customized training regimen that the user must follow. Training sessions are up to 15 minutes in length, three times a week, and are designed to help a persons’ brain better interpret information coming from the eyes of a person suffering from presbyopia (an age-related condition where vision of close-up objects, like a book page, becomes fuzzy).

The app is available free in the App Store, and includes a three week free trial. To continue the training you’ll need to see a way to pay $59 for another four months. However, the developers are running a limited time promo that will get you four months for $10.

I have been wearing glasses to correct my vision ever since I was in the fourth grade. I just might try this to see if I have any improvement at all in my close-up vision. If I do, I’ll be sure to let you know the results.

What do you think readers? Can this app actually improve your vision?
