Apple began running their 2013 holiday ad on national TV Monday night, and it’s a heartwarming tale of a modern family, the iPhone 5s, and AirPlay.
The holiday spot barely shows the iPhone 5s, it appears mostly as the device in a teenagers hand who stereotypically seems to be doing his best to ignore the rest of the family during the holidays. While others in the family romp in the snow, decorate the house, and enjoy the closeness of family, the teen seems lost in his own world, seemingly texting to his friends about how lame all of this is.
Come Christmas morning however, we see what the boy has been doing all this time. He’s used his iPhone 5s to record all the festivities, and he’s created a gift to his family in the form of a video, (most likely created in iMovie on the device), which he plays for them on the family television, via AirPlay.
Apple has also posted the complete version of the family video used in the ad, which it says was shot entirely on an iPhone 5s.
The ad is another win for Apple, as it tugs at the heartstrings, showing the closeness of family, and how Apple’s products can enhance the holidays.
The tune that plays during the ad is Christina Perri’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” From her “A Very Merry Perri Christmas” EP. It is available in the iTunes Store. [DIRECT LINK]
