Data from app discovery services Appsfire and AppShopper indicate that Apple’s App Store in the U.S. has reached the one million live apps milestone.
While Apple noted that it had a million apps in its worldwide catalog back in October, this marks the first time that various app platforms have seen the U.S. numbers climb above one million.
Apple’s App Store opened in 2008, and Apple has approved a total of approximately 1,439,451 apps since it opened. Of the over 1 million apps available, more than half a million are available for the iPad.
The company has paid over $13 billion to app developers so far.
Apple hit 50 billion app downloads worldwide in May 2013. The company celebrated the milestone by giving away a $10,000 gift card to the user who downloaded the 50 billionth app.
