Google Chairman Eric Schmidt: Android is So Great, Everyone is Switching Away From iPhones!

Google chairman Eric Schmidt, a former member of Apple’s board before he was ousted for conflict of interest over the potential to steal iPhone ideas for Android, has a reputation for firing off his mouth with huge, often false or over-simplified statements about Apple.

Notable examples include his declaration that Android is more secure than iOS (which is quite factually false), making fun of Steve Jobs and Apple’s patent war against Google and Android, claiming Android is “clearly winning” the mobile wars, lampooning Apple for abandoning Google Maps, and, most hypocritically, making statements against patent lawsuits.

Now Good Ole’ Mr. Schmidt is at it again, claiming that Android is clearly dominating Apple with 80% of the mobile smartphone market (which is only marginally true at best) and claiming Android is more intuitive than Apple. He even went so far as to write a guide for how to switch from the iPhone to Android, naming several phones which he called “better” in the iPhone in the process.

Here’s a direct quote from his post on Google+ (via 9to5Mac):

Many of my iPhone friends are converting to Android.  The latest high-end phones from Samsung (Galaxy S4), Motorola (Verizon Droid Ultra) and the Nexus 5 (for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile) have better screens, are faster, and have a much more intuitive interface.  They are a great Christmas present to an iPhone user!

Here are the steps I recommend to make this switch.  Like the people who moved from PCs to Macs and never switched back, you will switch from iPhone to Android and never switch back as everything will be in the cloud, backed up, and there are so many choices for you.  80% of the world, in the latest surveys, agrees on Android.

I don’t care who you are – needlessly calling your competitors’ products inferior, all the while pointing to dubious data to back up your point, is low class. Members of large corporate executive teams should be better than this – or if they’re not, they should at least get their facts straight and handle things professionally instead of making smug remarks.

What a load of Schmidt.
