The Philippines were hit hard last Friday as Typhoon Haiyan made landfall, taking thousands of lives. The American Red Cross is, of course, on the scene and can use all the financial help it can get. Apple is joining companies and organizations from around the world in contributing to the relief efforts. As a part of that effort, Apple has enabled donations to the Red Cross via iTunes.
Apple normally takes its customary 30 percent cut on iTunes proceeds, but the company surrendered the commission for the relief effort.
Donations of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or $200 can be made via iTunes, and Apple will transfer 100% of your donation to the American Red Cross in the region. This will aid them in the effort to help distribute food and relief supplies to survivors, and help with search and rescue efforts.
Red Cross donations for the Philippines victims is available via this iTunes link.
As Apple does not share your personal information with third-parties, the American Red Cross won’t be able to acknowledge your donation and your email receipt from the iTunes Store will serve as the only acknowledgement of your donation.
You donations will appear on your credit card statement as an iTunes Store transaction, and they may not qualify as a tax deduction, or any other tax benefits.
Also, iTunes gift cards and iTunes store credit cannot be used to make a donation.
Please donate to the Philippines relief effort, every dollar counts.
