Apple Announces Updated iLife and iWork Suites for iOS and OS X, Available Today!

Apple’s announced at today’s event that their popular suite of iLife and iWork apps have all been redesigned and with new features for both iOS 7 and OS X 10.9 Mavericks. And oh yeah, they’re free with the purchase of a new iOS device, or Mac computer.

From the Apple press release:

All apps have been updated to 64-bit, are integrated with iCloud®, and are loaded with hundreds of new features that let you do more than ever across your Apple devices. Apple today also announced that both iWork and iLife are now free with the purchase of every new Mac® or iOS device.

The all new iWork for Mac and iOS makes creating, editing and sharing documents easier than ever.

The new version include a new, unified file format, delivering perfect document compatibility across Mac, iOS and iCloud. The iWork for iCloud beta has been updated to include support for real-time collaboration. Documents can be created on an iPad, edited on a Mac and collaborate with friends in iWork for iCloud, even if they’re on a PC.

A new UI works to make iWork simpler to use, yet provides the tools you need to create your documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Numbers allows users to create interactive spreadsheets using Apple’s free object-based design. For example, expense changes on a quarter-by-quarter basis can be viewed more interactively.

Keynote has had new effects and animations added. Apple used the latest version of Keynote for presentations during the event.

iPhoto for iOS and OS X are both now 64-bit apps, making them more powerful than ever.

Photo Books for iPad, allows you to lay out the book in iPad, and upload it to Apple. The coffee table book is then printed and mailed to you.

iMovie on OS X includes new browsing features for libraries, Easier to speed up or slow down a video, which takes advantage of the iPhone 5s’ slo-mo capabilities.

iMovie theater takes a users’ movies, trailers and shared clips, and puts them in a single location. If you create a movie on the iPhone, it also makes it available across all devices, including the Apple TV.

Garageband on iOS has a new look for iOS 7. With a 64-bit device, users can work with up to 32 tracks of music on the iPhone or iPad.

Garageband for the Mac adds the ability to create a drummer track. It allows users to direct an automated drummer track. They can change the kit, or even add more drum fills. Different styles and sounds can be tested by choosing different virtual drumming personalities. More drummers and instruments can be added via in-app purchases.
