The Financial Post reports that in the wake of Blackberry’s announcement that it will be laying off 40% of its staff, Apple has begun attempting to lure BlackBerry talent by holding a recruitment drive near Blackberry’s offices in Ontario.

In the Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre on Sept. 26, located in Cambridge, Ont. on the outskirts of the Kitchener-Waterloo region where BlackBerry was born, the iPhone maker invited local talent with the aim of luring them to their Silicon Valley operations.
The LinkedIn invitation noted that the majority of positions Apple would be filling would be located at Cupertino, CA. Apple says it will provide relocation and immigration assistance to any hired personnel. It was not specified however, what positions Apple is looking to fill.
Apple’s moves come in the wake of BlackBerry’s $4.7 billion takeover offer from Fairfax Financial, initially received on September 23rd.
As a backup plan, in case Fairfax is unable to complete funding for the deal, BlackBerry is also considering breaking up the company for sale to various companies, including Cisco and Samsung.
