Apple has been testing their upcoming OS X Mavericks release with developers and members of the AppleSeed program for several months now after officially announcing the update at their WWDC conference in June. Fortunately, according to a new report from Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac, our wait may soon be at an end.
According to a source speaking to Gurman, Apple is currently putting the finishing touches on Mavericks, and has already seeded members of their AppleSeed program with a near-final version of the operating system, which will closely resemble the Gold Master.
Apple is … finishing up work on OS X Mavericks ahead of its public launch, according to a source familiar with the new operating system’s development. This source says that the operating system will reach Golden Master status internally by the end of this week or early next week […] Earlier today, Apple seeded OS X Mavericks build 13A598 to members of its AppleSeed program, but it is unclear if that new version will ever reach developers.
AppleSeed members believe that this build is a GM candidate, but a source says that the public release build will actually be a couple of versions newer. The source has also corroborated our previous report by indicating that OS X Mavericks is currently scheduled to arrive on the Mac App Store within the last ten days of the month of October.
Gurman also notes that Mavericks was originally intended to reach Gold Master status several weeks ago, but was pushed back somewhat on account of “critical bugs” that needed patching before release. He also notes that Mavericks has learned a few new tricks since June, inluding the ability to block iMessages and FaceTime calls from certain phone numbers and Apple accounts – a feature that Apple recently launched on iOS 7.
Given Gurman’s excellent track record, and the fact that many sources have been hearing similar reports, I’m banking pretty hard that he’s correct once more this time around.
