New color preference data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) shows Apple’s space gray iPhone 5s as the most popular color choice for U.S. customers, followed by silver and gold. For the iPhone 5c, blue was the narrow winner.
43 percent of iPhone 5s units sold were space gray, while 30 percent were silver and 27 percent were gold. Supplies of the space gray model were more readily available than the silver and gold iPhones, but consumers have demonstrated a preference for the black iPhone in the past.
Of course, the numbers could swing wildly once supply constraints for the gold iPhone 5s are relieved a bit. It’s possible those seeking the gold precious have purchased another iPhone 5s color, or held off on a purchase until the coveted gold model is available.
As far as the iPhone 5c goes, blue was the most popular choice, with 27% of sales, followed closely by white at 25%, green at 21%, and pink at 20%. Yellow didn’t seem to catch anyones eyes as much as you’d expect, taking only a 7% piece of the sales pie.
Broken down by gender, women went for the silver iPhone 5s, with men preferring the space gray. Gold seemed to be split about evenly among genders. Men also liked the white and blue models of the iPhone 5c, with the fairer sex showing a preference for pink.
