Those lucky buggers in China and Hong Kong can preorder the iPhone 5s starting today, and most models and colors were sold out across the country. This could indicate there will be a short supply come Friday’s iPhone 5s release for the rest of the world.
At the time of writing, only the 16 GB ‘space grey’ SKU’s remain available for reservation. All other models have sold out and are “currently unavailable” according to the online store. Sina reported on the phenomenon, noting that the gold model, in particular, was in high demand…
The rate the 5s sold out in China suggests the overall supply for the device could be low, and you may have to set your alarms for Friday morning to order an iPhone online, or get to the stores particularly early to camp out in hopes of grabbing on on opening day.
The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c officially go on sale in the Apple Store and other authorized retailers at 8AM local time. For very early risers, it also goes on sale at Apple’s online store at 12:01AM PST (3AM EST) on Friday September 20th.
