Leaked iPhone 5S Home Button Confirmed to Include Fingerprint Scanner

Early this morning, infamous Apple leaker Sonny Dickson posted a set of new detailed images of what is almost certainly the home button for the upcoming iPhone 5S. The majority of sites covering the leak immediately noticed that the part is radically different from its iPhone 5 counterpart. Speculation immediately pinpointed the rumored fingerprint scanner as the likely reason for the difference.

We sent a quick email to gadget expert and iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens to pick his brain on the technical details of the new part, and thanks to his swift reply, MacTrast can exclusively confirm that it does indeed almost certainly contain a biometric scanner.

Here’s what Wiens had to say (given the above images as reference):

It looks like the home button will still have a physical clicking action to it still like the 4, 4S and 5. The additional square section next the the button is something new and probably suggests a fingerprint sensor given all the rumor wire chatter on how Apple is expected to add that feature. It looks like that part of the cable flips over the button and sits between the clicking action and the plastic button cover.

So I’d say yes, these photos, if legitimate, corroborate the fingerprint rumors

There you have it, folks!

The iPhone 5S is expected (collaborated by well-sourced analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iMore editor in chief Rene Ritchie, 9to5Mac reporter Mark Gurman, and MG Seigler of TechCrunch, and more) to feature a champagne or gold color option, up to 128GB of storage,  significant under-the-hood upgrades (including a new custom Apple A7 chip with 64-bit processing), dual-LED Flash, a larger battery, a vastly improved camera, and more.

Keep your eyes open on September 10th – things are about to get VERY interesting!
