Samsung’s “tribute” to Apple’s Passbook app has debuted on the Google Play Store. The app gives owners of select Galaxy devices the ability to store tickets, coupons, and anything else Samsung got an idea to include while perusing the Passbook app.
Samsung Wallet hit the Google Play Store on Thursday and bears a strong resemblance to the Passbook feature Apple includes on iOS. The app was announced in beta for developers back in February, but it has only just now made it to the Play Store. It is compatible with the Galaxy S3, S4, Note, and Note 2.
Much like Apple’s Passbook, the Wallet app allows users to store tickets, membership cards, boarding passes, and coupons in the app. Users can also set time and location-based reminders for the wallet contents.
Initial partners supporting Samsung Wallet include: Walgreens, Major League Baseball, Expedia.com, Booking.com, Hotels.com, and Lufthansa.
Samsung previewed the app back in February, and our own J. Glenn Künzler reported on the remarkable similarities between it and Apple’s Passbook.
