Popular chat app WhatsApp has pushed out a new feature to its iPhone users: voice messages with push-to-talk functionality. The feature is also being pushed out to all of the app’s other platforms, including: Android, Blackberry, Nokia and Windows Phone.

We spend a lot of time at WhatsApp thinking how we can make keeping in touch easier, and we know there’s no substitute for hearing the sound of a friend or family member’s voice. So today we are introducing a new feature we are truly excited about: Voice Messages.
A recording is made with a single tap and hold, releasing the microphone button when you want to send the message or just swiping left to delete it. Length of messages is unlimited and a blue microphone icon tells you when the message has been played. For private listening, simply lift the phone to your ear and the app automatically reduces the play volume.
