Forrester: iPhone Owners Still Use Their Phones More Than Android Owners

Another new study shows that when it comes to actually using their devices, iPhone owners definitely get more of their money’s worth out of their devices than Android owners do.

After surveying both U.S. and European smartphone owners, researchers not only found owners of the Apple device more frequently use apps, but conduct more tasks suitable to smartphones, such as browsing the Internet. This despite Android’s advantage both in number of handsets out there and in sales.

The survey was taken by Forrester (via TechCrunch), and involved a sampling of U.S. smartphone owners.

In app categories ranging from weather to sports, iOS owners reported using apps more often than Android owners did. Weather was the most popular app category in both smartphone camps, with iOS owners checking the weather more often than their Android counterparts, 71% to 65%.

While iOS users were indeed more of a worry wart when it came to weather, browsing and messaging also showed iPhone users in the lead again, with 90% of iPhone users saying they browsed the web on their devices at least once a week, while only 80% Android surfers reported such usage. Messaging saw 90% texting at least once a week, and just 83% of Android users doing the same.

The gap widens when it comes to overall app usage: 89% versus 76%, the iPhone’s favor.
