Vintage Video: Siskel & Ebert Reviewing Apple Commercials

Apple commercials from the 1980s began surfacing on the net last week via YouTube channel EveryAppleAds. The channel offers an entertaining and interesting look at Apple ads from that period. The channel has recently posted a video of the late, great film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert reviewing some of Apple’s ads.

MacRumors:

The video appears to have been recorded at a special Apple event in 1986, as indicated by the Apple podium that Siskel stands behind. The two famous critics use the format of their then-popular film review show “Siskel & Ebert At The Movies”, minus the “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down” rating system, to critique some of Apple’s mid-80s commercials.

Siskel in particular seemed a fan of the ads, noting that while usually liking only one out of every three films he views, he liked all five of the Apple spots, saying: “… In fact, they’re so good they’re almost good enough to make me, a movie critic, want to watch prime time TV in order to see them again. Almost.”
