It’s time again for the part of the show we all know and love, “Rumors from DigiTimes.” The publication with the iffy track record reported on Wednesday that Apple has recently stepped up IC orders, while in a second report, they claim Apple has been in discussions with LG about “Ultra HDTV” screens.
Citing unnamed sources, the sometimes reliable Taiwanese publication DigiTimes reports Apple’s microchip suppliers are seeing an increase in orders, suggesting a new product launch is in the offing.
DigiTimes claims that Apple’s chip orders for the third quarter are almost double those of Q2. Their sources claim that IC shipments will grow “significantly” during the second half of 2013, and will account for as much as 70% of the company’s orders for the year.
In the second report, the pseudo-reliable news source says a rumor, (well, at least they admit it), has Apple in discussions with LG Display about the purchase of 55-inch and 65-inch “Ultra HDTV” panels. Sharp is also rumored to be in the running to produce the high-resolution displays.
The rumor did not provide additional information, or speculation, as to what plans Apple may have for the panels, merely saying the project remains in the testing phase, and that no deals have as yet been made.
As always, take the proverbial grain of salt before digesting rumors such as this. Perhaps sea salt, as I’m told by my gourmet friends it tastes better and has a nicer texture than ordinary table salt.
