iPads have become an integrated member of the computer family, with the size, ease of use and accessories available, iPad rivals many laptops. The trick is, finding a keyboard case that not only emulates a keyboard, but works seamlessly with iPad. The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad ($149 on the Logitech site) isn’t just an iPad accessory, it is a compliment.
Out of the box, the Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is durable, yet compact, I received the Sunflower Yellow Folio, which features a khaki colored keyboard. The outside shell of the case is fine-weave cotton material; the texture is reminiscent of a light-weight jean material. The interior of the case is a durable, semi-flexible plastic, which allows easy placement of the iPad, while still holding it snugly in place. To use, simply fold open the folio, which will allow users to lightly snap the iPad into an upright position with the precision-hold magnets. Once in the upright position, turn on Bluetooth, connect to the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio, and away you go.
The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio features a camera cutout, so users can take photos with their device still secured safely inside the folio. The controls are incredibly easy to operate with the button-like additions to the case that nestle overtop of the controls, allowing for fluid operation. I for one love these button-like controls, it makes the controls so much easier to use and more accessible. The charging port and headphone jack are easily accessible, although some accessories may not be able to work with the folio on.
Now the big question, how does the Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio perform when it comes to the main purpose, typing. Typing on the folio keyboard is a breeze, the buttons are smooth and perfectly sized. The only issue that I encountered while using the folio keyboard initially was the “A” key. The key is placed ever so slightly different, being that it is combined with the caps lock key. I found myself accidentally hitting the “S” key quite frequently during my first use; this issue was quickly resolved with use. The folio also has one of my must features for iPad cases, the instant on, instant off feature, putting the iPad to sleep when the folio is closed and waking it up when the folio is opened. In addition to the instant on/off, the keyboard powers on when the screen is propped into an upright position and the magnet is triggered and turns off when the screen is released from the upright position, which helps conserve the keyboard’s battery life.
Charging the Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is easy with the included charging cord that connects to USB. Charging didn’t take long and one charge can last up to 3 months. The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is compatible with iPad 2, iPad (3rd and 4th Generations) and comes in a variety of colors, including Carbon Black, Mars Red Orange, Electric Blue, Urban Grey, Sunflower Yellow, which I received, and Mystic Blue. Both the exterior of the case and the keyboard are liquid repellent for minor spills, which is ideal for the avid morning coffee drinker.
Overall the Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is a complete and total win. The size of the case, the light-weight durable material, the full size keys, color variety, magnetic stand and perfect fit make this case an excellent choice for anyone looking to purchase a keyboard folio for iPad.
