Meet the NuMac BDR6x Blu-Ray Burner – The First Accessory Specifically Designed for Apple’s New Mac Pro

There’s been a lot of talk about how Apple’s new Mac Pro design could result in added clutter for many professionals – and the reason why seems to make sense. Instead of being to pack several hard drives and PCIe cards into the Mac itself, users must now find external devices to accommodate their hardware. The below image from Twitter user @swd sums the matter up comically, though quite well:

It doesn’t have to be that way, however – at least, not according to Minneapolis-based accessory maker NuMac. NuMac has unveiled what is likely the very first new accessory designed specifically with the new Mac Pro in mind: The FMBDR6x Blu-Ray Burner. The device is designed to neatly sit underneath the new Mac Pro to reduce clutter – and it achieves that goal quite effectively.

From the website:

Designed to sit beneath your Mac Pro,the FastMac BDR6x is constructed from aluminum for durability and style. The aluminum enclosure matches the style of the Mac Pro and looks great next to all Apple computers. The NuMac BDR6x draws power from the built-in USB cable. No need for another power adapter to clutter things up. Just plug it in and start burning!

As many MacRumors Forums members point out in a thread about this very image, however, the “New Mac Pro Clutter Problem” might not be as significant as it seems anyway – many Mac Pro users don’t even use PCI cards in their Macs anymore, for instance, and many of their creative products, like keyboards and mixers, are already external anyway. The first comment from forum member Tesselator is particularly noteworthy, as he counters the images with one of his own, showing how the accessories he uses with his current Mac Pro already create quite a bit of bulk.

Nevertheless, if you’re concerned about clutter and considering getting a new Mac Pro once they are released, the FMBDR6x Blu-Ray Burner might be just what the doctor ordered. The device is now available to pre-order for $159 until September 1st, at which time it will increase to $179. For more details, or to pre-order one for yourself, head on over to NuMac’s website!

I’ve got the feeling we’re going to start seeing a lot more products like this surface in the near future…
