Apple has released a seemingly minor update to their Apple Store iOS app today, following reports that the company was planning to revamp the app to offer free content to users in-store. Interestingly, however, the reported new features have not made an appearance in the updated app, which lists only “improved product search capabilities” in its change log.
9to5Mac speculates that the feature may only appear when users are actually inside an Apple Retail Store, or that Apple still needs to push a server-side update to the app to enable the new ability. It’s also possible that the updated 9to5Mac reported on is still forthcoming. For what its worth, the leaked screenshots over at 9to5Mac do appear pretty convincing.
The app was also rumored to promote iTunes content to users in-store, including promotions for the App Store, iTunes, and the iBookstore, while offering special pricing incentives and giveaways to improve the retail experience.
As it stands, the app appears to have only minor, relatively insignificant updates for the time being.
Apple Store 2.7 is available now as a free download from the App Store.
