The Square payments company is teaming up with Apple to sell the new Square Stand point-of-sale system through Apple’s retail stores beginning Tuesday, July 9th.
The Square Stand is an iPad accessory that works with the Square Register app to turn in the iPad into a tool that can run a business. The Square Stand’s main feature is its ability to connect to several devices like cash registers, barcode scanners, and printers. Additionally, the device includes a built-in credit card reader…
The Square Stand was officially announced in May, and it begins shipping from the Square website as of today, July 8th. Several Apple Stores are said to have begun receiving the stands today, and while the official start date for sales at those locations is Tuesday, July 9th, some stores have reportedly been cleared to sell units to customers if they ask about them. The price of the product is $299.
No official word has been released as to if the Square Stand will be sold via the Apple Store online.
One important note: The Square Stand currently only natively supports the iPad 2 and third-generation iPad with 30-pin dock connectors with this product. The accessory does NOT support the latest iPad models that have the Lightning connector.
