Sources within Apple Retail say the company will kickoff its annual Back to School promotion this week. Eligible students will receive an iTunes/App Store gift card when they purchase a Mac, iPad, or for the first time ever, an iPhone. Purchasing a Mac will net a $100 card, while a $50 card will come with the purchase of an iPhone or iPad.
Apple will market these gift cards as credit for purchasing educational-centric apps, but, like an iTunes card, will work across the board for any media from the iTunes Store, App Stores, and iBookstore.
Apple held a similar promotion last year, but this year’s promotion is the first to include iPhone purchases.
Sources say Apple Retail Stores across the country will be putting up new store and window displays to promote the Back to School sale. Some stores will placing the signage up tonight for debut as soon as tomorrow.
