There were a lot of numbers tossed around during the keynote address that kicked off Apple’s 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference. The numbers paint a picture of the Cupertino firm’s sales, user base, app developers, and more…
Apple by the numbers for WWDC 2013:
The App Store and its Developers:
- There are a total of 6 million Apple developers.
- It took only 71 seconds before the tickets for WWDC 2013 were sold out.
- Over 50 billion apps have been downloaded from the Apple App Store.
- The App Store turns five years old in July.
- There are 900,000 apps in the App Store, and 93% of those apps are downloaded each month.
- There are currently 575 million App Store accounts.
- $10 billion has been paid to developers to date, $5 billion of that was paid this year alone.
- The App Store takes in 74% of the overall app download revenue by platform, three times more than the totals from all of the other platforms app stores put together.
Apple Retail Stores:
- 1 million daily visitors to Apple retail stores around the world.
- There are currently 407 Apple retail stores in 14 countries.
Mac’s Install Base Statistics:
- The Mac installed base is 72 million. Double what it was just five years ago.
- The MacBook has an annual average growth of 15%, with a 100% five-year growth rate.
- 28 million copies of OS X Mountain Lion since its release in July 2012.
- 35% of OS X users use OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
iCloud and iTunes:
- There are currently 300 million iCloud accounts, making it the fastest growing cloud service around.
- There are 300 million iTunes in the Cloud users.
- iTunes in the Cloud users have downloaded 35 billion music tracks.
- 3 new additions to iCloud: iWork for iCloud, which includes Numbers, Pages, Keynote
iOS Numbers of Record:
- 240 million Game Center users.
- 60 out of the top 100 games in the App Store include Game Center support.
- 800 billion iMessages sent to date.
- 7.4 trillion push notifications with iMessages to date.
- 600 million iOS devices have been sold to date.
- 90% of iOS users use iOS 6. Just 6% use iOS 5.
WHEW! That’s quite the tally! I guess I’m glad I paid attention in Math class in school after all.
