iOS developer Rolocule Games has released Motion Tennis, a new iOS sports gaming title that allows you to use your device as a Nintendo Wii-like motion controller to play tennis on an Apple TV connected HDTV.
The game studio, based in India, has previously released a series of touch-based tennis, badminton and squash games. Motion Tennis is new in that it brings gameplay to the television using motion gestures.
Rolocule implements a gamin engine it call RoloMotion, and says it “converts your iPhone to a portable Motion Gaming Console using Apple TV. This breakthrough technology realises the potential of the Apple TV as a complete home entertainment system also optimising the lags experienced in airplay gaming by using our patented algorithms.”
The game is optimized for the iPhone 5, but will work with the iPhone 4/4S, 4th/5th generation iPod touch, 3rd generation or later iPads and the iPad mini. (I’m thinking playing with a full-sized iPad would be clumsy at best, but perhaps it would give your arms a good workout…)
The game also requires a second or third-generation Apple TV, (the little square, black, hockey puck versions.) The game is played on an Apple TV-connected HDTV via AirPlay Mirroring.
The game does allow multiple players, and even tracks the calories burnt in each match. (There’s that workout, feel the burn!) Game Center is used to track achievements and top scores.
I’m thinking a Wii controller-like tether for your iOS device MIGHT be a good idea…
Motion Tennis is available for iOS devices for $7.99 in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]
