Apple is reported to be performing internal testing of a version of iOS 7 that includes the AirDrop Wi-Fi file sharing tool found in OS X. 9to5Mac published the report today, citing “people familiar with the software.”
Sources say that the AirDrop functionality is currently integrated into the standard iOS share menu. AirDrop will work between two iOS devices and potentially between an iOS device and a Mac. The feature will make it easier than ever to transfer, for example, a photograph or document from one person’s iPhone to another person’s iPad.
As has been seen with past reports, Apple can remove any feature from the new operating system before its expected June unveiling. Apple was reported last year to be including an AirDrop tool for their iOS devices, but it was scrapped before its completion.
AirDrop would allow seamless individual file exchanges between iOS devices belonging to different users. Apple included this ability for Mac computers in 2011, with the debut of OS X Lion.
