As Apple continues to bolster their iWork development team (following a hiring boost back in February), the company has posted a new job listing for a software engineer to work on the next generation of iWork apps for Mac and iOS. Apple hasn’t significantly updated their iWork suite for the Mac since 2009, making a new version long overdue.

The iWork team is looking for a software QA engineer to work on the next generation of Desktop, Mobile and Web application/services. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills who can contribute in a dynamic team environment.
- Bug reporting and isolation
- Planning, designing, and executing test cases
- Ensure the successful delivery of a quality product by performing ad hoc and structured tests on a daily basis
Apple has been steadily hiring talent for their iWork team over the past couple of years – and especially within the past six months or so, fueling speculation that a major update to iWork may be planned for the near future. A separate job listing from May 7th specifically mentions a focus on adding Retina graphics to the iWork suite.
The fact that the listing is for a quality assurance engineer, rather than a production engineer, may suggest that a new version of iWork may be closer than otherwise expected. A full list showing no less than 9 current job listings for the iWork team can be seen on Apple’s hiring site.
