Volkswagen Announces the ‘iBeetle’: An All-New Vehicle Designed With the iPhone in Mind!

European car manufacturer Volkswagen has introduced an all-new version of the Beetle, designed specifically with Apple users in mind. Dubbed the iBeetle, the car offers an integrated iPhone dock. It also features a specialized app used to control certain functions of the vehicle, deliver oil and coolant temperatures, provide diagnostic information, and more.

From the Volkswagen press release (via MacRumors):

The iBeetle

Volkswagen conceptualised the iBeetle for the debut of iPhone 5 integration – it is one of the first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple. As mentioned, the special model will be available as a Coupé and Cabriolet. The colours and equipment features of the iBeetle are stylistically linked to the Cupertino-based US company, bringing the icons of its smartphones into harmony with what is certainly one of the world’s most iconic automotive designs.

The iBeetle, which will be available at the beginning of 2014 (advance sales already begin in October 2013), will not just be delivered to its owners with the standard iPhone interface, but with other customised features as well.

The iBeetle app will also offer features such as a g-force meter, a compass, a chronometer, and a special Trainer mode which can compare driving times, and help you make the most of your fuel economy. While it’s not exactly the “iCar” many fans have hoped for, it’s certainly an interesting new way for the iPhone to interact with a vehicle!

The iBeetle will be available starting in early 2014, and pre-orders will begin this October.
