I’ve thought that EA and Maxis’ new SimCity game looked pretty awesome ever since I first heard about it – except that it was missing one critical feature: Mac support. That’s about to change. According to a new announcement posted on the SimCity message board, SimCity for Mac will be released on June 11 – and buyers of the PC version will get the Mac version for free!
From the SimCity message board:
Good news, Mac Mayors – today we can officially confirm the release date for the Mac version of SimCity is June 11, 2013. If you already own SimCity on PC, you will also receive the Mac version at no additional cost (and vice versa). If you don’t already own SimCity on PC and just wish to purchase the Mac version, you will be able to pre-purchase your copy on Origin starting April 10th.
It’s also especially exciting that the game will support cross-platform multiplayer between Windows and Mac, and making the Mac version free to all prior buyers is a very welcome move. If you haven’t already purchased a copy, you can pick up SimCity (download-only version) for just $32 from GameFly.com using coupon code GFDAPR20.
Hopefully the release of the Mac version won’t cause the same issues that surfaced when the PC version first launched. Well, what are you waiting for? Go get it!
