Apple has come under fire in the past few years by critics, (mostly politicians), for having it’s products assembled in foreign countries. In response to the criticism, Apple posted a new page on its website last year trumpeting the more than 500,000 jobs it has created or supported in the US with its business. It has recently updated its page to reflect the jobs it created in 2012.
With more than 800,000 apps now in Apple’s mobile marketplace, the App Store continues to grow at a staggering pace. Apple says its app economy has added nearly 300,000 jobs to the US economy since 2007, and it’s paid more than $8 billion out to developers.
3,000 of the jobs were actual direct hires by Apple. More than 80,000 of the jobs were iOS software related.
Apple is making efforts to soothe its critics, as last year Tim Cook announced the company’s $100 million initiative to bring some of Apple’s manufacturing back to the United States. Earlier this year, it was reported that the company is using a California company named Quanta Computer for assembly.
