Apple’s ultra-thin new iMacs may be the least repairable version yet, but they certainly are gorgeous devices – and now that Apple has taken control over the supply issues that once caused 5-6 week wait times, they’re now also available at a significant discount from the refurbished section of Apple’s online store!
The first refurbished 2012 iMacs began appearing yesterday evening, offering a significant 15% discount compared to Apple’s pricing for brand new units. For instance, the highest non-custom 27-inch iMac is currently available at a $300 discount – just $1699, down from $1999. Despite the fact that Apple made some compromises to the machine’s upgradeability and repairability, it is nevertheless one extremely attractive device – and probably the best overall all-in-one computer available today.
While Apple’s refurbished deals are quite nice, it’s also worth noting that you can get as good or better deals elsewhere. For instance, Amazon.com and B&H Photo both offer the high-end 27-inch iMac for $1899, with free shipping, and no sales tax in most states. Once you figure in the cost of sales tax buying one from Apple, it turns out you can get a brand new 27-inch iMac for the same price as a refurb from Apple.
Either way, it’s a pretty sweet deal. Anyone planning on buying one?
