Apple Hits 45 Billion Download Milestone in the App Store – Over $9 Billion Paid Out To Developers!

As part of their quarterly earnings conference call yesterday, Apple offered a progress report on the state of the App Store – and to say that Apple’s app market delivered impressive results would be quite the understatement. According to Apple, the App Store has now seen over 45 billion total app downloads – that’s over 700 million app downloads per day, and over 800 downloads every single second.

What’s more, app developers have been served an impressive amount of cash as a reward for their efforts. In fact, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer revealed that Apple is now paying over $1B per quarter to developers, and has paid out a total of over $9B to developers. Further, about half of that has been paid within the last year, which gives a pretty good idea of just how strong that App Store’s performance really is.

The company also revealed that there are now a total of 850,000 apps now available on the App Store, 350,000 of which are designed specifically with the iPad in mind. As of yesterday, the App Store is currently available in 155 countries, spanning about 90% of the world’s population.

That’s a pretty impressive achievement for a service that launched less than 5 years ago…
