It’s Masters weekend, so you know you’re going to get the urge to get the clubs out of the storage shed and hit the links. Why not try to make your “enjoyment” of the game last longer than the first 3 holes?
Here are 5 great apps that will either help you play better golf, keep track of the pros, or play your golf the place you should have been playing it all along, on your favorite iOS device.
The Masters Golf Tournament (FREE) – The official iPhone app for the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, April 8–14, 2013, provides the most comprehensive digital coverage available. The Masters is the reason you’ve got the urge to hit the links again, so why not keep track of it while you’re out there hacking?
This app includes: Eight live streams of video content, on-demand video highlights, features and player interviews, live leaderboard, a course overview, news coverage, and even driving directions and an interactive map if you’re traveling to Augusta National Golf Club. (And, if you do have tickets for the Masters, how about helping a brother out, and hooking me up? What? No? Well, OK… Maybe next year…)
Available FREE in the App Store for the iPhone and iPad. [DIRECT LINK]
PGA Tour (FREE) – Here’s the app you need to keep track of the PGA Tour during the rest of the season.
The app includes: Coverage of every player, in every tournament for all three pro tours all season long, live scoring, on-demand highlights, live video coverage, and “Shot of the Day.”
The app gives coverage of the PGA Tour, The Champions Tour (Seniors), and the WEB.COM Tour, (Minor Leagues).
Available FREE in the App Store for the iPhone and the iPad. [DIRECT LINK]
Golfshot: Golf GPS ($29.99) – This app is what you need while you’re out there on the course trying to get that little white ball into a hole over 300 yards away. OK, this one will set you back 30 bucks, but isn’t that worth it to tell you exactly where you are on the course, and how far you are away from the green?
I use this one whenever I golf, and I’ve compared it to dedicated golf GPS units that cost hundreds of dollars, and this app measures up pretty well. (See what I did there?)
The app contains 40,000+ professionally mapped courses with no annual fee. (You can check at GolfShot.com to see if your home course has been mapped. If it hasn’t, you can request it.) The maps included will show you where you are on the course, how far you have to go to the hole, all water and sand hazards on the current hole, and their distances too. The app even keeps score, if you’re into that sort of thing, and can even email it to you after your round is over.
Available for $29.99 in the App Store for the iPhone, and GPS equipped iPads. [DIRECT LINK]
Training categories include: Driving, greens in regulation, short game, bunker play, and putting.
Golf pro Paul Azinger provides tips, instruction and drills especially designed for amateur players. Your handicap level will determine the difficulty of the assignments presented to help improve your game where you need it most.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 ($0.99) – Sure, this is last years golf game, but it’s only a buck, and this is a great golf game. Let’s be honest here, the only way either one of us is going to break 80 playing golf will be on an iPhone or an iPad Retina display.
You can play in solo, head-to-head, or PGA TOUR modes, and hone your skills in the TIGER CHALLENGE, featuring over 20 mini-games. By mastering the challenges you can unlock special prizes and share Game Center Achievements with your friends!
