It’s no secret that Microsoft’s Windows 8 platform, including Windows 8 for the desktop, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8, aren’t exactly off to a booming start – but Microsoft hopes that a little bribery might change all that! The company is now offering developers a $100 incentive for each app they submit to their app market.
It’s a bit of an odd strategy – while a $100 incentive might encourage developers to submit quick, simple apps, such as “eBooks as apps,” flashlight utilities, or other apps that can be cracked out in a few hours, it’s unlikely to draw attention from major developers, or developers working on more complex or more significant apps.
The offer was spotted by The Verge earlier this week, although it officially started on March 8th, and extends until June 30, 2013. Participants also must be located in the United States. I hope Microsoft gets what they’re looking for from this promotion – but from my position, it appears to amount to nothing more than petty bribery to attract small-time developers to create sub-par apps…
