Attention true believers! Marvel Comics’ digital subscription service has FINALLY arrived on iOS devices! Marvel has announced the release of the highly anticipated Marvel Unlimited app on both the iPhone and iPad!
For years, comic fans have asked Marvel to offer its digital subscription service on Apple’s iPad, but users were restricted to reading back issues with an iOS-incompatible Adobe Flash-based reader. Marvel began offering an HTML5-based, iPad-compatible reader a few months ago, but on Thursday the company launched its companion Marvel Unlimited app for iOS.
The app is free, but it does require you to subscribe to the newly renamed Marvel unlimited service, which runs $10 a month, or $60 for a full year. The app does come with a free trial, so you can check it out and see if the Marvel Universe is your kind of place. You do have to sign up for the subscription outside of the app, so Marvel can hold on to that 30% cut of in-app purchases that Apple likes to wet its beak with.
Marvel Unlimited gives you access to more than 13,000 comics from Marvel’s history, spanning over 70 years. Both classic and newer issues are added every week, and you can read comics from as recently as 6-months ago thru the app.
Subscribers get full access to the archive both on the web, and via the iOS application. You can also select up to 6 comics for off-line reading, just in case your Wi-Fi signal sucks in the bathroom.
Well what are ya waitin’ for? As my dear old Aunt Petunia used to say.. “It’s Clobberin’ Time!”
