We’ve heard a lot recently about the idea that Apple may release a cheaper budget-priced iPhone alongside their next-gen iPhone this year, from a variety of sources with varying levels of credibility. A new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (who is among the most well-connected and accurate Apple analysts), however, aims to share additional details about Apple’s plans.
According to Kuo (as reported by AppleInsider), the device will feature the same 4-inch Retina display as the iPhone 5, will come in a variety of new colors, will feature a unique case material made from plastic and fiberglass, and will be “between 0.4 and 0.6 millimeters thick”. The material is intended to make the casing thinner, stronger, and lighter compared to similar all-plastic materials.
Kuo also notes that the device will be manufactured by Apple’s long-time manufacturing partner Foxconn. Some units will also be assembled by Pegatron, using casings manufactured by Green Point. Previously, Kuo has also stated that Apple will also release a significantly updated next-gen “iPhone 5S” with a built-in fingerprint scanner.
