Apple has expanded its postings for Map Ground Truth employment to the rest of the world. The company was initially only hiring for the position in Australia. “Ground Truth” refers to working with information collected on location versus data collected remotely, such as by satellite.
The jobs, for ‘Maps Ground Truth Manager’ positions, have been posted for the U.S., The Americas, Western Europe, Japan, Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East & Africa.
The position involves managing the team responsible for regional map quality and ground truth in the U.S. Regional teams are responsible for the quality of Apple’s maps in that region.

The manager will be expected to drive the team’s work, allocate resources, and communicate test results and feedback to teams in Cupertino.
Apple has been working to improve its mapping service ever since its initial effort in iOS 6 was harshly greeted by the public after numerous errors came to light.
