A new wireless Mac accessory aims to bring a little bit of magic to your computing experience – by allowing you to control your Mac using nothing but motion and gestures! The accessory is a cool new wireless armband from Thalmic Labs called the MYO, and works by detecting electrical activity in your muscles, which it translates into usable gestures.
From the website (via MacRumors):
With the wave of your hand, MYO will transform how you interact with your digital world. The MYO armband lets you use the electrical activity in your muscles to wirelessly control your computer, phone, and other favorite digital technologies.
Using groundbreaking technology, MYO is able to measure electrical activity in your muscles instantly. The result is a seamless way to interact with computers, and a truly magical sense of control.
The device will offer a similar use experience to the LEAP, but uses muscle activity to achieve its end result rather than tracking movement via cameras or IR sensors. The possibilities are seemingly endless – shift between iTunes tracks with a flick of your finger, launch an app by pointing at it, or switch between open apps by using your fingers like a magic wand. Very cool.
The device connects via Bluetooth, and is intended to work out of the box with both Mac and Windows devices. Support for iOS and Android devices is also in the works. The MYO armband is available to pre-order now for $149, and is set to ship in late 2013. Check out the website for all the details!
