Bitcasa has announced that its Infinite Drive cloud storage system has launched, and is now available on the Mac and iOS devices. This is in addition to support that existed during beta testing for Android, Windows, Windows RT, and Google Chrome.
Bitcasa is basically a remote hard drive, with unlimited space that users can connect to from various computers and mobile devices. The service offers client-side encryption that the company says will keep user data safe from its employees.
Unlike other cloud storage services, such as Dropbox or SkyDrive, Bitcasa is intended to replace your existing hard drives. “Hard drives are now dead,” the Bitcasa’s co-founder and CEO Tony Gauda said today in an announcement.
The service will normally run you $10 a month, or $99 a year, but Bitcasa is celebrating its general release with special pricing. During the month of February, users can buy a full year of service at a 40% discount, $59 for the year.
