Apple Will Expand Israeli Operations – Will Open Ra’anana Facility

A report today says that Apple will be increasing its presence in Israel with a new development center in the Ra’anana Industrial zone. The facility will be staffed by former Texas Instruments employees.

AppleInsider:

The Ra’anana facility will be Apple’s third in Israel, opening alongside a Haifa development center launched last year and the pre-existing Herzliya facilities of flash memory developer Anobit that Apple acquired roughly a year ago, reports Israeli business news site Globes.

It is reported that between 100 and 150 former employees of TI will staff the center. Apple hired those employees in late 2012, after TI laid them off as part of a wider dismissal of 1,700 workers worldwide.

The former TI employees are said to have worked on on short-range communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. However, the report suggests the new development center will be headed in a different strategic direction.
