It’s Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air! It’s time to give that special him or her a gift from your heart. Or the nearest Walgreen’s. How about taking a little different approach this year? Why not let the App Store help you celebrate?

So in the spirit of the day where a little diapered flying lunatic armed with the pointy weapons makes the decision about who does and doesn’t fall in love, we present to you, “5 Great iOS Apps for Valentine’s Day!” And this year, it contains 100% more Shatner…

YDKJ_iconYou Don’t Know Jack: Valentine’s Day Edition (FREE) – If you’ve never played You Don’t Know Jack, then you’ve never experienced the #1 game in the world that combines Shakespeare and fart noises.

The game works with both the iPad and iPhone, and contains hundreds of “episodes” of this outrageous trivia game. New topical episodes are added every week. Gee, I wonder what topic this week’s episode could be about?

Question types include, the DisOrDat, the Gibberish Question and the Jack Attack, along with new specialty questions such as Funky Trash, Cookie’s Fortune Cookie Fortunes with Cookie “Fortune Cookie” Masterson, and “Elephant Mustard, Teddy Roosevelt, or Dracula?!”

I’ve been paying this game since it came out on PCs and Macs WAY too long ago to remember. And the great thing about this Valentine’s Day app? You can still use it next week after all this is over!

You Don’t Know Jack: Valentine’s Day Edition is available for iPad and iPhone, FREE in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]

food_network_iconFood Network in the Kitchen ($1.99) – Everyone knows that the way to a man’s heart is thru his stomach. And guys, women are pretty darned impressed with a man who can cook a meal without having the Fire Department make a guest appearance.

In the Kitchen offers thousands of great recipes from your favorite Food Network chefs and shows. Cook with Alton Brown, Paula Deen, Giada De Laurentiis, Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri and more!

New recipes are added every month, it contains thousand of recipes and photos, making it fun and easy to cook like the pros do on TV. (Only with a lot less makeup, and you don’t have to stand under those hot lights!)

You can search by favorite chef or ingredients, or just browse to you heart’s content for the perfect recipe.

Food Network in the Kitchen is available for $1.99, and works with both the iPhone and iPad. [DIRECT LINK]

opentable_iconOpenTable (FREE) – OK, let’s be honest, you can barely figure out a can opener, and the microwave and local pizza joint are your best friends. What can you do to impress that certain someone? Take them out to dinner!

OpenTable allows you to book a table at over 20,000 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada. Plus, you can earn dining points, which can actually help you pay for the fancy grub you’re going to be wolfing down. (Use a napkin, will ya?)

You just choose a date, time, and the size of your party to view all available tables in real time. Then tap the table you want and the reservations is yours – instantly!

You can find restaurants near your current location, view information in a list or on a map, narrow the search by cuisine, neighborhood, and price. You can even browse menus, ratings, and reviews. It has great features that let you invite friends to dine with you, add reservations to your calendar, even make reservations for out of town when you travel.

OpenTable is a great app, and I’ve been using it for years. I once used it to make a reservation at a Las Vegas restaurant while I was sitting in the theater during intermission of “Jersey Boys.” (Don’t judge me, it’s a classic.)

OpenTable is available FREE for the iPad and iPhone. [DIRECT LINK]

the_questions_iconThe Questions ($0.99) – OK, you’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow, but you want to make sure you’re in this thing for the right reasons. Maybe it’s just his beautiful brown teeth and white hair that attract you. (Wait… Did I get that backward?) Is he the right one? The Questions can help you decide.

The app contains the full set of 76 interactive cards and companion book, which will provide you with a comprehensive, elevated version of your average “love quiz.”

Just answer the questions with a positive, negative, or unsure reflection of your true feelings, flag any areas of concern, review your answers, and then highlight issues that need more exploration. Then you can revisit sessions for comparison and reflection.

The app says it can help you refine your priorities and to discover the truth that you’ve been seeking. But it is only $0.99, so…
