Apple CEO Tim Cook returned to China for talks with the head of the Ministry of Industry Miao Wei, after last visiting in March 2012, The Wall Street Journal reports. A photo of Cook and Miao was published on a government website, but it is unclear what was discussed beyond the development of various of China’s innovation and communication industries.
WSJ:
While the purpose behind Mr. Cook isn’t clear, he should find no shortage of things to talk about. Mr. Cook’s visit comes amid greater scrutiny of Apple’s manufacturing practices in China and as China becomes Apple’s No. 2 market for sales.
China is becoming a bigger part of Apple’s strategy every day, and it is clear that the Apple CEO wants to keep such an important market controlled and be on good terms with men in power.
Carolyn Wu, an Apple spokeswoman, didn’t ‘immediately’ reply to an email from WSJ seeking comment.
