Judge Orders Apple, Amazon to Discuss a Settlement in ‘App Store’ Trademark Case

A San Francisco judge has ordered Apple and Amazon to conduct settlement negotiations in their “App Store” trademark court case.

AppleInsider:

Attorneys for both companies will hold talks on March 21, according to Bloomberg, in Apple’s trademark infringement suit. The court already sided with Amazon earlier this month when it dismissed Apple’s claims of false advertising.

While the judge has tossed out Apple’s false advertising claim, the rest of the trademark dispute remains to be settled, and will head to trial in August if a deal cannot be worked out between the two parties.

Apple filed suit against Amazon back in 2011, charging Amazon with violating the “App Store” trademark for which Apple has applied. Amazon countered,  arguing that the “app store” has become generic, allowing it to call its digital download service the “Amazon AppStore.”
