Crucial Announces First 960GB SSD For Under $600

The high capacity SSDs have always been unaffordable to most, but Crucial is changing that. Today, it announced the first ever 960GB hard drive for under $600, significantly cheaper than other terabyte class SSDs, which are normally priced around the $1,000 mark.

Made in collaboration with Micron, the M500 also comes in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities.

Glen Hawk of Micron:

The M500 SSD is a reliable storage solution featuring nearly instantaneous system response times and terabyte-class capacity – all at a competitive price point.

For consumers, the Crucial M500 SSD is an easy, cost-effective solution for dramatically increasing system performance. For OEMs, we’re ultrathin ready with the Micron M500 SSD – improved response times, lower power consumption, and trusted reliability – all in a design that’s smaller than ever before.

While it hasn’t yet been released, it is slated for a Q1 2013 launch, so pretty soon. Those who crave both raw speed and huge capacity will not have long to wait.

It comes in the 2.5 inch form factor, like most SSDs, and uses SATA III (6Gbps). It also of course Mac and PC compatible.
